2023 DUNE Blewitt Springs Shiraz cleanskin dozen
Cleanskin (unlabelled) dozen of 2023 DUNE Blewitt Springs Shiraz.

Fermented with whole bunches, whole berries and crushed fruit, with 12 months in seasoned foudre (75%) and hogsheads (25%). Darkly wrought fruit, spicy and savoury, though not cresting out of medium weight, with a refined array of red fruits emerging with air. Powdered spices – star anise, allspice, clove, cassia – black cherry, dark-roast coffee bean, lavender, violet and nori. Delicious and, like all the Dune wines, truly exceptional value.

There’s so much to like about these Dune wines. Stylish (visually as well) and well-priced. Lots of perfume and exotic spice, some black olive and dried herbs, fresh blackberry and cherry. It’s medium-bodied, supple in fine-grained tannin, has a sort of glassy acidity, quite meaty, with something of a fresh black berry tang, and a long gently grainy finish. Lovely wine. Understated, but complex.

A fresh, vibrant syrah with aromas of blueberries, dark chocolate, blood plums and dark-cherry confit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a creamy mouthfeel. Nicely balanced with real purity, finishing with a floral lift. Drink or hold.
Bright and delightful blackberry, raspberry and fresh cranberry aromas. Driven by crunchy, ripe red fruit, grippy tannins and balance for an elegant yet complex wine.
