Desert Sands Vineyard

The St. Dune wines are made from vines planted at the Desert Sands vineyard located in Blewitt Springs, which is approximately 15 kilometres from the ocean and 5 kilometres from the Willunga Range.
This area is well known for its deep sandy soils over yellow clays.
The prior owners of the vineyard planted  Shiraz in 1995 and it was originally intended to produce large crops of fruit with the aid of large amounts of water and fertiliser. Since 2008 when the vineyard was purchased the emphasis has changed.
The vineyard is no longer fertilised and instead receives both organic compost and mulch to improve soil structure and add organic matter to the soils. Crop levels have been reduced significantly resulting in more concentrated wines. Native grasses are encouraged to grow within the vine row and kangaroos and other wild life are a common sight.
The Shiraz was suffering from Eutpya and needed to be completely restructured- The Chardonnay and Pinot Gris were replaced by more suitable southern mediterranean such as Carignan, Mourvedre, Grenache, Negroamaro and Nero d'Avola as well as a small parcel of Chenin Blanc that has a proven track record on Blewitt Springs Sands
2017/18 will see the planting of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Grenache Gris as well as a small amount of Picpoul and Cinsault.
We also source a small amount of fruit from a family vineyard in the Willunga where we grow Negroamaro, Fiano and Mourvedre.

We are on our way to achieving organic certification, we should be "organic in conversion" early next year with full organic certification to follow a year or so after.
We have no cellar door yet but hopefully will in the future. If you would like to buy our wines you can do so via this site, alternatively shoot us an email and we can let you know your closest stockist. If you just want to chat or have a game of cards you can also email us HERE!
